The EU wants to simplify business procedures between European countries

15-09-2026

The idea is that a company could identify itself digitally, store and share verified documents, certificates or permits, sign documents electronically and manage authorisations, all through a system designed to facilitate cross-border operations.

What could change for businesses?

For a company working with suppliers, customers or public administrations in other European countries, the tool could help reduce paperwork and avoid having to use different systems to verify information or exchange documents.

For example, a Spanish company looking to work with a French company could have a simpler digital way to identify itself or share certain documents and credentials.

Is it mandatory to use it now?

No. This is important: European Business Wallets are not currently in place as a mandatory requirement for businesses.

On 9 June 2026, the Council of the EU adopted its negotiating position on the proposal. The legislative process and negotiations with the European Parliament must now continue.

Therefore, businesses do not currently have to take any action because of this initiative.
