Reus gives initial approval to its 2027 budget: what should businesses know?

28-10-2026

Reus City Council has given initial approval to the municipal budget and tax ordinances for 2027. The consolidated budget is expected to exceed €242 million, including an investment plan worth €22.2 million, with planned improvements to public spaces, industrial estates, transport and municipal services.

One of the main announcements for next year is that municipal taxes will remain frozen. These include property tax (IBI), vehicle tax, the tax on economic activities (IAE), the tax on construction, installations and works (ICIO), and capital gains tax. Most municipal fees will also remain unchanged. The exception is the municipal waste collection fee, which will increase by 1.6%.

For self-employed professionals, shops and businesses in Reus, understanding these measures can help with financial planning for the coming year. However, the actual impact will depend on each business’s activity and the fees that apply to it. Businesses should therefore check the relevant rules before estimating their costs.

The investment plan also includes improvements to public spaces and industrial estates, alongside projects related to sustainable mobility, municipal facilities and the modernisation of public services. These investments form part of the city’s economic priorities for 2027.

Although the municipal council has given initial approval to the budget and tax ordinances, the process is still awaiting final approval. Businesses should follow official announcements from the City Council for any changes before the measures come into force.
