Small and medium-sized enterprises developing innovative urban mobility solutions have a new opportunity to grow across Europe. EIT Urban Mobility has launched the SME Market Expansion Open Call 2027, an initiative designed to help SMEs bring proven solutions into new markets, cities or sectors.
The call has a total budget of €600,000 and expects to select around ten projects. Each successful company will receive a fixed grant of €60,000 to test, adapt and demonstrate its solution in a real-world setting, working with an end client committed to the project. The aim is to help innovations reach the market and create new commercial opportunities for businesses.
The initiative focuses on five areas: public and shared transport, urban logistics, transport electrification and alternative fuels, mobility data management, and health and mobility. Potential projects could include solutions that improve transport services, make urban deliveries more efficient or support cleaner and more effective mobility systems.
Who can apply?
The call is aimed at small and medium-sized enterprises with a sufficiently developed urban mobility solution and clear commercial potential. According to information published by EIT Urban Mobility, applicants should be able to expand into new markets, demonstrate previous customer experience or pilot projects, and present a clear growth strategy. They must also have an end client, either a public or private organisation, committed to testing and demonstrating the solution in real-world conditions. An early-stage idea alone is therefore not enough.
Selected projects are expected to run from 1 April to 31 October 2027. Before applying, companies should review the official call requirements and prepare the required documentation, including an end-client commitment letter and a project pitch deck.
Applications are now open and must be submitted by 1 December 2026 at 17:00 CET. Businesses are encouraged to check the eligibility criteria carefully and prepare their applications well before the deadline. SMEs selected under the 2026 SME Market Expansion Open Call are not eligible to apply for this new edition.
